What it takes to scale private markets
How iCapital is transforming the world’s investment industry by building the infrastructure Canadian advisors need to access and manage the investment life cycle for alternatives
For more than a decade, iCapital has been focused on simplifying access to and management of alternative investments. In 2025, that focus continued to deliver measurable impact, helping drive innovation, expand access, and create greater value across the ecosystem. Across Canada, iCapital’s advisor network, fund launches, and platform capabilities all grew, and at the 2026 WP Awards, iCapital wasnamed WealthTech Service Provider of the Year.
At the center of iCapital’s approach is its technology platform operating system that is the only fully integrated end-to-end investment and technology ecosystem that helps financial professionals to diversify, grow, and scale their clients’ portfolios efficiently. Instead of managing the investment life cycle for private equity, credit, hedge funds, and real assets products through fragmented or manual processes, private banks and wealth advisors can manage education, digital onboarding, portfolio construction, transactions, data flows, analytics, and client support through one platform that integrates with their existing infrastructure.
The design is modular, so institutions can adopt the full system or select individual components, giving wealth managers a practical path to offer institutional-grade strategies at lower minimums and with simpler workflows.
That technology is only part of the story. iCapital has treated advisor education and training as a core part of its innovation strategy, with the view that access to alternatives means little without the knowledge to use them responsibly. Resources like Alternatives Decoded, signature Outlooks, and AltsEdge, the latter developed with the CAIA Association, give financial professionals practical grounding for incorporating alternatives into client portfolios.
The Canadian business shows the scale of that work. As of March 31, 2026, iCapital had built relationships with more than 180 wealth channels across the country, supporting over 3,500 financial advisors and over 100,000 investors through a dedicated local team. iCapital Network Canada has launched more than 80 Canadian tailored alternative investment funds with approximately 50 leading global asset managers.
iCapital continues to invest in its global growth and expansion. In July 2025, it completed a capital raise of over $820 million, pushing its valuation past $7.5 billion, in a round co-led by T. Rowe Price and SurgoCap Partners with participation from State Street, Temasek, UBS, and BNY. The company used the funding for strategic investments to expand its capabilities through targeted acquisitions, including AltExchange and Parallel Markets for data management and KYC/AML passport technology, Citi Wealth’s global alternative investments platform for added scale across more than 180 private market funds, Tangible Markets and LYNK Markets for liquidity and cross-border solutions, Passthrough for onboarding automation, and Hexure for annuities and insurance product sales enablement.
As of March 31, 2026, iCapital reported nearly $1.2 trillion in assets serviced globally, including $312 billion in alternative platform assets (of which $61 billion is international platform assets), $288 billion in structured investments and annuities outstanding, and $554 billion in client assets reported on, across more than 3,400 wealth management firms and 130,000 active financial professionals.
