Voting will commence in April 2024 and their judgment will be impartial, balanced, incisive and fair. Any judge with a conflict of interest in a category will recuse themselves from judging that category.

The changing of the guard Among the themes highlighted at the awards ceremony was a momentous recognition of the changes that this industry is embracing. Those changes were perhaps best demonstrated by two awards, honouring young advisors and female advisors: the Centurion Asset Management Award for Young Achiever of the Year and the Wealhouse Capital Management Award for Female Trailblazer of the Year. “We appreciate that there’s going to be turnover in the industry, and you’re going to see young people come in and change things in a very positive way,” said Matthew Barnes, Director of Investment Sales at Centurion Asset Management. “These are trailblazers, and it’s exciting to partner with them.” The Wealhouse Capital Management Award for Female Trailblazer of the Year also commended some of the change this industry is seeing as more women take on leadership roles and become top advisors. “Everybody talks about how women are underrepresented in this industry and any industry,” said George Ganas, Managing Partner, Client Relations, Wealhouse Capital Management. “This award can identify that person who has been here for a long time but who is also trying to mentor other younger women.” For his part, the 2024 Young Achiever of the Year, Evan Inglis, Executive Financial Consultant with IG Wealth Management, shared his joy at winning the award and why more young people should become advisors. “It’s an honour just to be recognized as an Awardee… I'm really looking forward to what the future holds. But this is a recognition of my team’s hard work,” Inglis said. “If you want to help people or you want to make a difference in their lives, this career is an amazing opportunity.” Giving wealth, giving time Other awards given out that evening celebrated the ways the wealth management industry contributes to the wider community, through charitable giving and the all-important work of financial literacy education. The Charitable Impact Award for Excellence in Philanthropy and Community Service pays tribute to an individual who has made significant contributions to their community through philanthropic work. “Philanthropy is a part of many people’s lives, and the advisors who do the best recognize that just as people go on vacation, they also give back to community,” said John Bromley, CEO & Founder of Charitable Impact. Abbot Wealth Management of Harbourfront Wealth Management was the winning practice, and its partner and senior advisor, Mark Bertolli, weighed in on the importance of philanthropy in their work. “We have a dedication to our core to community service. And we believe that leadership in this is very important to show our clients, and we think that as advisors, we can change the world, for us, our staff, our clients, and our communities,” Bertolli said. Just as advisors serve and support their communities through philanthropic work, they make a significant contribution to Canadians’ overall financial literacy and financial literacy education. The IFSE Institute Award for Financial Literacy Champion celebrates that crucial work. “I think financial literacy is always important, because it impacts clients’ finances and their psychology,” said Christina Ashmore, Managing Director of the IFSE Institute. “We think the industry has done such a good job trying to promote that literacy. We’re always improving, and we see that the industry is very focused on improving financial literacy.”
Research The Wealth Professional Awards team conducted and drew on knowledge and information gained through Wealth Professional to support and supplement nominations received and to ensure that no one deserving of recognition is missed. Excellence awardees were determined from both pools of information.
